I helped a group of fifth graders at RHES design a motion-controlled video game for a PE class at Red Hill Elementary School. The students used a Microsoft XBox Kinect to capture people’s movement, and this information was sent to a Donkey Kong-like game that they made. To make the game’s characters move, players ran in place, performed jumping jacks, and climbed imaginary ladders. All of this came together through an interesting application of mathematical concepts like coordinate grids, angles and rotation, variables, and computation. Cardio + Math + Video Games = Fun
